Freedom of Speech = The New Breed of Terrorist

Monday, November 26th, 2007

When I was a young man I had the privilege — in school — to read George Orwell’s 1984. I’m sure many of you were assigned this book to read as well. Upon finishing the book I remember thinking “it could never happen here.” Since becoming an adult I’ve witnessed an inexorable push by our nation’s leaders; one leading us towards a state controlled society. Now, according to at least one state agency, Libertarians/Green Party members et al are “terrorists.”

Falwell Dead…..

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Apparently the Reverend Jerry Falwell “was found in his office unconscious and without a pulse this morning at approximately 11:30 am est. ” He was founder of the group “Moral Majority” which was quite active, politically, in the 1980’s and a rather controversial American figure. The CNN article can be read, in its entirety, here.

I disagreed with much of what the late Reverend Falwell was involved win/in. That said, he galvanized a large number of people and fought for, what he saw was a, necessary change. Agree with him or not he certainly was more American than many people I know who are far too happy sitting on their couches complaining versus standing up for their beliefs and working within the system to affect desired change. That takes courage and I offer sincere condolences to Dr. Falwell’s family and church membership.

The result of these issues has been a sort of apathetic inaction. I assumed my situation would change within a day or two and the delay would be a short one. Unfortunately, that proved a forlorn hope. So, please forgive my absence the last week or so. Moving right along, I have had the distinct privilege of experiencing  unwarranted, moronic, and tortuously laughable bureaucratic nonsense lately.

How Many Deaths?

Monday, August 14th, 2006

One can hardly escape the violence of our world. Nightly newscasts are filled with death and mayhem. Israel, Lebanon, Iran, Syria, Iraq, the United States, and countless others are mentioned alongside the pertinent death toll. As a child, I grew up learning that God created all of us, each and every one. Later, in school I was taught that it wasn’t God rather evolution responsible for life on earth. While these views oppose one another they both offered a simple perspective: life is precious.

R.I.A.A. Thugs Target Innocent and Guilty Alike

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

The Electronic Frontier Foundation posted a story on their web site the other day spotlighting the draconian measures of our new American Secret Police: the R.I.A.A. The EFF, in an article titled “Innocent Target of File-Sharing Lawsuit Deserves Attorney’s Fees“, chronicles the story of one Deborah Foster who was unjustly accussed, by the R.I.A.A., of illegal file sharing.
