Record Setting Rothko

A painting by Mark Rothko set a world record yesterday at Sotheby’s. New York Magazine, online edition, features an article describing the record-breaking sale. According to this article the Rothko painting was sold at auction by David Rockefeller.

Artists, Careers, and Survival

In the spring of 2006 I took an Art History course in college. It was typical in that it was a survey course and most of the students enrolled in the class did so to obtain the required credits towards an Associates Degree. This was furthered strengthened by the opportunity to obtain IS credits (Interdisciplinary Studies) as well. I went into the class not expecting too much from it as my impression of art was that it existed as a medium for the wealthy.

A few days ago I was able to enjoy a real pleasure: seeing children “light up”. No, its not what you think. They weren’t smoking substances of any kind they were doing something much more interesting and fulfilling: painting.

Rembrandt: 400 Years and Still Going……

I heard mentioned via National Public Radio a couple of weeks ago that Rembrandt’s anniversay (of his birth) was approaching. I made a mental note but, as so often happens with my apneatically oblivious mind, I forgot all ablout it. As it happens, I was at NPR’s website looking for information on a topic to be discussed on tomorrow’s “Morning Edition” when I saw a blurb reminding me of Rembrandt’s birthday.
